day four . . .

It's MY turn for sharing on the Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop!  Annnnd . . . it also MY BIRTHDAY!
♥  Local grandgirls visited for a birthday eve visit yesterday!  ♥
Hexie Pumpkin Mug Rug
(this is the fourth or fifth I've made...but this one is for ME!)
A birthday means there's a giveaway in here somewhere. ;)

So when I signed on for this hop in July, I gave myself a couple of hours  several days  weeks  until five days ago to figure out what I wanted to make/share.  I love autumn and the less ghoulish elements of Halloween and I didn't want to do anything too creepy or ghoulish.
I adore ... no seriously ... I ADORE pumpkins in all their glorious colors, shapes, and sizes, but pumpkins didn't quite seem to fit the Witchy Stitchy theme, so I could start there, but I couldn't end there.  With a little inspiration from where I live (Camp MACOBA) as a year-round camp host and from one of my favorite quilting books, I got an idea.

Spiders . . .
Oh yeah, no lack of live, creepy, crawly inspiration there!  *shudder*

I mean, c'mon...what respectable witch brews a cauldron of brew without a pinch of spider or a dash of web?!  Or at the very least, keeps a spider on a leash as a pet??!
Exactly.

So being that I'm a small project person and adore a darling mug rug (or two or ten) for *every* season, here's my offering:
A spiderweb mug rug and a couple of yo-yo spiders.  These yo-yo spiders are so super cute and easy to make!
I found them in Simple Fabric Folding for Halloween, along with a lot of other spooky fun projects!

The pumpkin is also super easy ... one roll of toilet paper, one fat quarter, and a nice sized twig for the stem.
They're a GREAT way to decorate when you have little, curious hands around, as are the yo-yo spiders!!

Okay, so I know I mentioned it was my birthday and a giveaway.  That's the kind of birthday girl I am!  I want *everyone* to have a happy day on my birthday!  So here's the deal.  Leave a kind birthday greeting in the comments and follow me in some shape, form or fashion (and let me know you do), and I'll draw a winner for a copy of Simple Fabric Folding for Halloween for your very own! I'll accept entries through the 11th and announce a winner sometime on Sunday the 13th.  :)

Many thanks to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for coordinating another super blog hop! These are a lot of work to put together and she does a beautiful job of  it!  Be sure, also, to visit the rest of the blogs that are hopping today:

this is me!  ---->Count it *all* JOY!

Thank you for stopping by . . . and I'll have the final list of participants posted if you come by tomorrow!

Bewitchingly stitchingly yours,

:)

Hi Denise! Happy Happy Birthday to you! Look at that fabulous picture of your surrounded by lots and lots of love and smiles. It's fabulous. Now, I got to the first of your other photos and you lost me. I am so afraid of spiders - even through the computer. Your Hexie Pumpkin mug rug rocks, though! What a cute and great use of hexies. And, I'd say you deserve one for yourself. This is such a fun blog hop! I'm glad you joined in and especially that you have a fabulous day. {{Hugs}} . ~smile~ Roseanne

Have a blessed birthday full of love, and joy! Love your spiders, the real ones and the yoyo ones. My house has been covered (outside) in spider webs for weeks now, they come out at night. We looked them up they are called Brown Widows, and last count just near the back door there were 46 and they are big!

Happy Birthday! I don’y Mind spiders, they are good bugs as they eat other bugs like mosquitoes which we have way too many of! Yours are super cute and thank you for the chance to win the pattern!

I'm kind of late to this birthday party, but I wanted to send you birthday greetings anyway. I had planned on sending you timely birthday wishes, but senior parent care has become pretty all-consuming lately. Hope you had a great time celebrating, and will continue to make the most of your birthday month. I am making my plans for our swap, I just don't get the sewing time I need to execute my plans right now.
The arachnid photos were about as creepy as I can stand for Halloween. Your fabric fellas are much more to my liking! :)

many happy returns of the day. Happy Birthday. Wow that is an amazing collection of spiders living in your park not to mention the adorable ones living in your home. I follow your blog and on IG. Love your mug run and yes you definetly need to keep that one for your birthday gift to you.

Happy, happy birthday, Denise! I love your hexie pumpkin mug rug and the spiders and toilet role pumpkin are adorable - even if I don't particularly care for spiders! LOL I hope you had an awesome day!

Happy Birthday Denise: Looks like you have some beautiful Granddaughters. I have just one...4 years old and she loves to come and craft with me. LOL Her Mama is a crafter too so it's in her blood. I Love your projects and I know my Baby Girl would love doing them too, especially the spiders (last year we made them out of LARGE pom-poms and pipe cleaners with google eyes to put on the spiderweb on our door). She would be happy to make the same ones, but I think these fabric ones would be very exciting for a 4 year old. I have some YUMMY fabrics that would be WONDERFUL for them too. It is 10:25 PM on the West Coast (California) on Oct 12 so I hope I'm not too late to enter the drawing. If I am, that's OK...I will look for the book on-line to buy for next year. By the way, will you share your Mug Rug pattern.
Thanks, Sandra
