declutter to design . . .

Gosh it's lovely this morning -- cool and dry and clear skies.  Is it the end of September or August?!?  Whatever it is, I'll take it!

Thought I'd share some pics of a my newly decluttered space.  Keep in mind, however, that when you declutter a fulltime RVer's space, you don't end up with spacious, roomy spaces.  You end up with every space filled in a neat, organized way.  LOL!

***Edited to add:  Todd thought this would be more interesting if I started with a "before" picture.  So here's one right after I started the process:
Pretty scary, right?!?***

Okay starting up with the space immediately to the left, as you walk into the bunkroom . . .
The pegboard hangs over the 1/2 bath (which we're *very* grateful for right now -- long story, different post, perhaps).

Next, the slideout with the bunk beds (minus the mattresses -- we don't need no stinking mattresses!) . . .
The bunks we converted to storage space for our assorted Rubbermaid drawer systems -- which are totally hodge-podge -- our office filing cabinet and the printer.  The drawers hold my quilting/crafting supplies and fabric (the bulkier yardages, my Christmas fabrics, my Friendship collection and one {little} drawer of assorted charm squares) and then some have Todd's things and a couple of sets hold office supplies.  My make shift design wall is rolled up there at the top.  When I need a big design wall, I simply drop it and it covers the entire space.

Under the bottom bunk is more storage space, accessible from both the inside *and* the outside.  Crafting stuff is kept close to the front, so I can get to it easily -- Christmas crafting stuff and ladies ministry materials are kept in the back.

In this corner we have my stash, stored in containers by color (mostly).
And you might notice that I also have a bitty design window.  Just for blocks and whatever (saves me having to unroll the big guns)!

Now the table ...
We put all space to good use ... there's a couple of more sets of Rubbermade drawers underneath there, as well!  And I have a lovely view out the back window while I sew.  Deer often cross my line of vision out here.

Then we skip a corner and move to the farthest corner (which is actually to your right as you walk into the bunkroom) . . .
This is also a bunkbeds -- the top is a regular bunk, which we use for storage of bigger stuff -- my quilter's hoop, two additional tables, a folding chair, and some other stuff.  If we needed to, we can lower it, clear off the stuff, and use it as a bed. The bottom couch (which is nice to have back there) unfolds into a bed as well.  And of course, there's storage under the couch as well -- this is Todd's side.  :)

And here's one of the things I'm working on ... this pretty little block (for a second time).
I swear, I think that hydrangea fabric may be my all-time fabric for the ages.  Or top ten, at least!

And, finally, remember this?
The collection I won from Meg Cox and Moda earlier in the year?
I've held on to it, wanting to use it for something special -- but I've also felt bad about not using it, too.
Until this weekend!  Barbara Brackman's newest BOW -- Grandmother's Choice -- starts up on Saturday, September 1. It will be a blog and block chronicling the fight for women's rights (similar to the Civil War Quilts blog and BOW Barbara did). I knew I wanted to participate, but didn't know what fabric I'd use ... until I realized that this line would be *perfect*!  And I think I've got more than enough of it to do the entire top -- except for perhaps sashing, binding, and the back.  But still, I'm so excited!!  I've followed the blog and gotten on the Flickr group, too.  Ready, set, GO!

Okay ... so I've got *space* (without chaos) to play in today. I'm going there. You head over to Judy Laquidara's Patchwork Times and check out what's going up on design walls 'round the quilting blogosphere!

HAPPY MONDAY!!

nothing ventured, nothing gained; stash report #33 . . .

Well I think the title says it all . . .

Used/donated this week: 0 yards
Used/donated year-to-date: 24.75 yards
Purchased/added this week: 0 yards
Purchased/added year-to-date: 111.25 yards
Net used/donated for 2012: -86.5 yards

So yeah . . . I didn't get anything completed this week BUT ... I *did* finish my de-cluttering process!  Yay!!  The last thing on my list was the most dreaded thing -- the back bunk room aka the quilting room.  Whew!  I finally tackled it yesterday and finished it up tonight.  I'm worn out but very happy it's finished!  Now I just need to "de-clutter" my car.  That's where everything is that I didn't toss or give away -- waiting on a yard sale next week.  *sigh*

Of course, now that it's all tidy and my stash is back in order, my creative juices can flow again!  Yay!  And I certainly didn't add to my stash this week either, for a change.  Joc did -- she pretty much bought out the store finishing up her Ellie's weeks fabrics!  LOL!  Better her than me, right?  And speaking of which, here's week thirty-one:
Such a sunny, happy girl!  The Raggedy Ann fabric is in honor of Joc's college society, the Eunomians!

I'm going to link up with Judy Laquidara's Patchwork Times for the weekly stash reporting.  Looking very forward to Design Wall Monday!!!

playing catch-up . . . again . . .

What happened to the past few days?  Last thing I knew, it was Saturday morning and I was headed out for Stitcher's sew-in, and here it is now Wednesday morning!  LOL!

We did have fun at our sew-in.  There were lots of gorgeous and fun quilt projects going on.  Kari, our fearless and wonderful leader, finished this baby quilt . . .
Isn't it lovely?  Kari's such an accomplished quilter!

Sarah was working on this darling Halloween applique project:

And Lynn was working on this beautiful piece:
Lots of great works in progress!  I managed to get a little stitching in, but not nearly as much as I would have liked.  And I had to leave early, too, in order to get to the grocery store and get busy cooking for Sunday's breakfast!

I missed my stash report #29, so I'll go ahead and post it here, too.  Since my Fairy Frost fabrics came in, I definitely need to report!  That's my in.  My out is a donated fat quarter and the Christmas napkins I worked on, too.

Used/donated this week: .75 yards
Used/donated year-to-date: 24.5 yards
Purchased/added this week: 5 yards
Purchased/added year-to-date: 81 yards
Net used/donated for 2012: -56.55 yards

I'll go back and link up with Judy Laquidara's Patchwork Times for the weekly stash reporting!

My decluttering campaign is going *really* well!!  I've completely decluttered the kitching/living room space, including all the cabinets, pantry, drawers, curio shelves and seating storage.  I've also tackled our three filing drawers -- I didn't have a lot of stuff to "yard sale" from those drawers, but I did manage to come away with better than thirty pounds of paperwork that we'll shred.  Whew!  Anything to help lighten the load (and since we have a weight limit when we get around to pulling this RV, I mean that very literally).

Last night I finished going through my CD/DVD collection and this morning I decluttered our bathroom -- the medicine cabinet, under the sink, the linen closet and the second medicine cabinet (yes, two medicine cabinets in one bathroom!).  What should I do with expired prescription meds??!

I met with another woman from church and we set a plan out for our Women's Ministry for the rest of the year.  While I want all our events to be fun, I also want them to have meaning and purpose.  We'll be doing a lot of outreach/ministry work in our events.  Friday night we have a beach blast night ... we'll do salads and potatoes, a beach-themed devotional, and we'll but together goody bags for a block party we're doing next month.  Should be a fun night!

I got to spend a little time with Joc and Ellie yesterday.  In fact, I had the pleasure of watching Ellie with her first banana (and as an afterthought, her first prune, too)!  Oh what fun!
"Hmmmm, what's this?!"
"Interesting texture and flavor--once I was able to get it in my mouth!"
"Feels good between my fingers ... nice finger painting consistency!"
We have a winner!!

I've got work to do, better get a rolling here!

decluttering . . .

Thanks to Jocelyn, I found a great blog . . . Keeper of the Home . . . and she's issued a challenge.  One I desperately needed!
Yes.  Eight week to a less cluttered home.  I'm so amazed at how fast I collect clutter.  And in our little RV space, it becomes obvious *very* quickly!  She has a plan of action that you can follow ... and no matter that we're on the second week, day seven ... you can download the pdf booklet she's prepared and start whenever you're ready!  She's also got a facebook page dedicated to the project, where she's making daily updates and folks can post pictures of their own progress.  There are quite a few "playing" along!

The idea is to take small sections of your home and spend thirty minutes (give or take) going through those sections.  For example, Day 1 is Kitchen drawers- Cutlery and cooking utensils.  As you view the items in that section, screen them through the following criteria:

Is this beautiful?
Is this useful?
Do I really think it's worth it to have this in my home? (Worth the cost, space, maintenance, time and energy, etc.)

Your goal is to find at least ten items in each section that don't meet the criteria.  Whether you give it away, sell it, or trash it is entirely up to you.  The booklet is full of tips and ideas and helpful hints and encouragement!  And you may not have all of the sections in your home that she does.  For example, she has two days dedicated to children's books -- I don't have any of those -- so instead, I'm giving those two days to my two sets craft drawers.  The point isn't to do it *exactly* like she has, but to make it work for you!

So far, I'm on Day 10 (I'm working a little ahead because I'd like to be finished with this before I head to Virginia/Maryland at the end of the month).  Here's my pile of 'reject' stuff:
Pretty impressive, huh?  There's better than 90 things right there and that's not even including the stuff I've tossed -- or already donated to the Camp's kitchen.  I'm so excited!  I wish I'd taken before/after pictures last week.  Especially when I did under the bench seats at the kitchen table.  That's where my quilting books were.  Haha!  I didn't give up too many of those.  But I did organize them and was able to move them to the other side; because the other side was filled with junk I didn't need to keep!

So?  What's cluttering your home?  Are you up to this challenge?  Dive in!

:)
