cause for celebration and a giveaway . . .

What a celebration!!  First we hit the new year . . .

And then I mark it with the big
One THOUSAND posts!  That's big stuff!  Major stuff!  GIVEAWAY stuff!

So that's exactly what I'm going to do.  A giveaway!  But first, the revelation . . .

I spend too much time on blogs.  There I said it.  It's in writing and undeniable.  I spend too much time on blogs . . . posting, reading, commenting, responding to comments, taking pictures for potential posts . . . some nights I'm even sleepless, thinking about possible scenarios I could write about.  Too much.  The thing is, I really enjoy the writing and the blogging/quilting community and the camaraderie and the inspiration and, well, all the incredible, wonderful *friends* I've made through blogging.

Still, I know in my heart that I'm being called to scale back.  I'm not sure exactly how I'll go about doing it except that it won't be cold turkey!  I may reduce my number of posts (which is really ironic, considering how I pushed to get to 1,000, isn't it?) or I may limit posts that can be commented on.  I will probably do less commenting (but I probably will NOT do less visiting).  Oddly enough, it may even involve a little blog revamping.  I haven't got it all ironed out yet . . . I just know I've got to do something.  Two days ago, I didn't have the first goal or resolution for 2013.  Yesterday morning, after an hour or so of quiet time, prayer and introspection, I have an entire list!!  LOL!  The blogging is just a *wee* little part of it -- but it's important.

So how about now I lighten things up a little and get to that giveaway?!!  This giveaway is a thank you for my followers only -- new and old -- so before you leave a comment, make sure you're a follower.  But what to giveaway?!  How about this . . .
One $25.00 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop -- spend it however you like! All you have to do to be eligible to win is to leave me comment letting me know about the one thing you know in your heart-of-hearts that you need to do/not do/change for 2013. One comment per follower. Simple and easy! I'll leave it open until midnight (CST), January 10th ... Ellie's first birthday ... and announce a winner on January 12th!  And please make sure I have a way of getting a hold of you if you're the winner!  :)

So what are you waiting for?!?

Happy New Year, my sweet friends ... and thank you!!

:)

**Comments now closed -- a winner will be announced on Saturday!!**

Happy New Year to you, Denise! Congrats on your milestone and on your introspection and resolution. I know what you mean. I don't think I follow as many blogs as you do (as evidenced by your recent number of wins--I don't even see that many giveaways, let alone win them *LOL*), but I still have had to set some limits on myself with blog time. It can take over.
This year I am going to get back to an exercise regime. Health issues got me off track this year, but I have a plan that should be doable even if the issues continue. : )

Barbara F. said...

Congrats Denise! I am also doing a lot of thinking about my blog, I know if I ended it I would miss it too much! I do love visiting and commenting, but it is holding me up from other things that need my attention. I have to get serious about eating healthy and eating clean and exercising, taking baby steps and building myself up. Since I don't sew, I won't enter your giveaway. I do love fabric, and wish I could get some lessons. Happy 1st day of 2013! Now I need to get to sleep. xo

Vroomans' Quilts said...

Congratulations and Happy New Year! I don't need fabric so don't add me to the draw, but I will leave some thought. I cut back on my blog roll, cut back on my swaps, and cut back on large projects to small, doable, finishable projects. And blogging doesn't need to be every day or other day - even once a week really is gratifying. Finding ME time, family time, smelling the roses time makes for a more productive life style.

Lee D said...

I hope you don't disappear too much. I would miss you :( I need to get active again. happy new year from Calgary

Kate said...

Blogging is a lot of fun, but it can be time consuming. Hope you don't cut too far back, I'd miss seeing all your fun projects (and all the antics of the little ones).

Healthier living has to become a bigger part of my life. Though I'm fine now, if I don't make some changes, I'll have a harder time as I get older. So that's the focus for 2013, better eating habits, better sleeping habits and better excercise habits are must dos on my list.

Jean(ie) said...

Happy New Year Denise! It's almost New Year's Day here on the west coast. Just less than an hour to go.

My main focus will be on talking to God a bit more. I need to be more mindful of that relationship.

Congrats on the 1000th post! Truly something to celebrate! Yay!

Sheila said...

Congratulations! 1000 posts is awesome.
I spend too much time blog hopping, reading and commenting. I may do less commenting, more lurking. I like to blog. To make it less stressful, I write short posts, one or two pictures and I do not post everyday.
This year I want to make better food choices, exercise regularly, learn to knit, crochet and paper piece.

Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts said...

Happy New Year! And congratulations on 1000! I am going to get more organized this year and do some much needed tossing out. :) Thank you for such a great giveaway prize!

Barbara said...

Happy New Year! Congratulations, dear friend. I am definitely going to get serious about getting more exercise, and hopefully, I'll lose some weight. I'm taking steps to cut down on my computer time too. I'm thinking about limiting visits to the computer to morning and evening...no drive by email checking/blog-reading mid-day!

Happy New Year, dear friend!! And congrats on 1000 posts!! That IS amazing!! I am glad I am aboard to be one of your blogging friends - you are a doll!! Just ask Janet!!

Organize my life...ugh. I can never find what I need, when I need it. I've now managed to lose 4 social security cards in my lifetime and did you know you can only get 10 replacement cards from social security? Yeah, my life is a mess and I resolve this year, to finally organize my life (and my fabric!) so I'm not such a messy-Michelle anymore.

I cut back on how many postings I did from last year by 50. I quit doing the Stash reports. That saved me a LOT of Stress. I hear you on the time that blogging takes. I think I'll still Blog at least once a week. That should be enough. Then I'll have more time for my own projects and getting stuff in order around the ol' quilt Zone. Thanks for the giveaway. You know I'm a follower/Fellow Blogger/Stalker, LOL

Happy New Year Denise. Congratulations on your 1000th post. You are right blogging and reading and commenting can take over if you let it get away from you. Because I still work almost full time I don't have a lot of time so it is limited to evenings and a quick read with my lunch. I love reading your posts so hope you wont cut down too much on them.

For next year I am going (oophs have already started since it is nearly 1 p.m. here in London on the 1st) to get fit by being more careful with what I eat and exercising more. With that in mind I'm off to walk our dog. Thanks goodness it is lovely and sunny here.

Congratulations dear friend! As you know I decided to end my blog for the same reasons so I think that was probably my last resolution of 2012. My first resolutions for this year is to spend more time in fellowship with friends and to get to know my neighbors better.

My to-do for this year is to make a quilt for my husband. I keep changing my mind about the design, fabrics, and colors. So this year I'm going to just do it. And if I really get going on it, he might end up with more than one. =) soparkaveataoldotcom

Happy 2013 to you my dear! Congratulations on reaching that 1000 post! and they have been very interesting posts. Have enjoyed them immensely.
I resolve to enjoy each and every minute spent with my three grandchildren. They are the great loves of my life.
I would like to be entered in your giveaway please.

Denise I have to say I've wondered how you've done all the posting and commenting you've managed to get in this year! I can't even begin to manage that much. But I came to the same conclusion last year - the more I'm on the computer, the less I'm actually doing of the stitching I'm blogging about. I cut back and I feel better for it. In my heart this year I want several things - to spend more time in actual conversation with Him (not just me talking and Him listening!) and more time sewing even when I'm giving it away (maybe even because I'm giving it away). I'm trying hard to listen to what He wants me to do rather than barreling ahead doing what I've decided He wants me to do. Happy New Year! blessings, marlene

Limiting my online time is the change I`m making. I`m committed to two more Hops. After that I`m sewing for family and creating more family time. It gives me joy.

Congratulations!! I need to limit my Internet time and stop being in a hurry which is different than being busy. I always feel hurried and it affects everything I do. Things only get done half as nicely because I'm hurrying. Time to slow it down and be more effective.

Happy New Year and Congrats!! Today I celebrate my birthday and already I am enjoying a beautiful day! What I really must do in 2013 is trim down... I've got about 10 lbs that I need to lose and never find again!

Happy New Year Denise! My one and only new year's resolution is to quit smoking. We've spent the week since christmas worrying about MIL because she ended up in the hospital boxing day having breathing problems... ends up, her COPD has advanced to emphysema. She's been a smoker for at least 50 years (she's 75 now). So now she has to quit smoking and have oxygen in her apartment, which scares me. I never want to be in that situation myself. I didn't stop at midnight...but sometime in the next few weeks, will set a date to quit and work on becoming a non-smoker. It's a good thing I have my quilting and crafts to keep my hands busy... I know it will help.

Congratulations and happy new year! Wow, you really touched a nerve, or just touched people, with this post. In my heart of hearts? I must improve my health by losing the weight I've been dragging around for too long!

Blessings to you!

I get up every morning, grab my toast and coffee and head for my computer. There I will sit until I have checked my emails, the blogs I follow, Facebook, my birding social site, and sometimes misc. things. I really want to start getting up and get my blood flowing by moving about making beds, doing laundry and picking up the house, feeding the birds, etc, before I plop down for 2 hours in front of my computer. I'll get more done and feel better too. Thank you for such a nice give away.

A slow internet connection has forced me to reduce my blogging time. What I really need to work on is procrastination. Why do I put things off??? Happy New Year to you and may you find a balance in all that you do.

Happy New Year sweet friend! Wishing you a year that overflows with blessings!Congratulations on your blogging milestone! Like you, I need to scale back. I am hoping to unplug a bit in the coming year. I want to savor my days a bit more and that is hard to do in front of the computer. I treasure the friendships this medium has allowed me to make though so it won't be easy.

Happy New Year and Congrats on 1000! WOW!
I have a few things I need to work on/change in the New Year. As usual, my first, is eating healthy and losing weight. Sounds redundant doesn't it? I have a few others but mostly personal.
Thanks for offering the wonderful giveaway and Good Luck to all.

Congrats on 1000 posts! My biggest goal is to finished the ufo's that have been hanging around here for too long. And in my heart of hearts I would like to give some of them to the childrens hospital in our area. Happy anf bledded New Year to you and yours!

Happy New Year and congratulations!
This year I plan on doing more pilates (I have a back problem) and finishing at least some of my UFO's!

One thing that has helped in my blogging, is that I don't worry about how often I blog. Sometimes I blog several times a week and sometimes once or twice a week. I don't worry about having blog posts for when I'm out of town, etc. I'm too busy enjoying life to be concerned about it. Every couple of months I scale back on the blogs I read too. If a blog is not one that really shares my interests, I go ahead and take it off my subscriber, If I don't do this, I'll do nothing but read blogs all day! My goal for this year is to learn how to work my treadle and FMQ!

sew.darn.quilt said...

Congratulations on 1000 posts, whew! That's alot to say :D

I want to better organize my time this year. Last year I felt scattered most of the time and that makes for a less productive me! I'm going to be adding another iron to the fire this year and getting back into my goldsmithing so time management is going to be implemented.

Needled Mom said...

Congratulations on reaching 1000 posts. That is amazing!

In my heart of hearts I also know that I should be on the computer less. I can get so much accomplished when I use that time otherwise, but it is so inspiring to read all of the fun blogs. Good luck with your challenge and happy new year.

tink's mom said...

Congratulations on 1000.
Yes I am a follower for a bit now. You have a great blog and I enjoy what you do and what your have to say. I do get how much time blogging eats up in your life. For the new year I really need to cut back on what I have been shoveling into my mouth. Or at least shovel in healthy vs fun. Got up this morning and purged all the candy and cake that was still hanging about. had to start somewhere.
No matter what your decision, have a Happy and Healthy 2013.

Deanna said...

Too much computer time can be too much. I am sure you will work things out to a good balance. Particularly if you notice it gives you more time for the people in your life. Happy New Year!

Momof3girls said...

The one thing I do need to do this new year is to figure out how to schedule housework and filling orders. I also need to figure out how to schedule in finishing my quilt and filling orders. There are lots of things I want to make for myself, but I run out of time each day to work on my things.

I did decide a few months ago that I was going to work on my alphabet boys quilt each day. It took me 20 years to cross stitch the alphabet girls and it can't take me another 20 to stitch the boys.

I haven't sat down and make any resolutions. Whatever I do decide to do, I won't consider as resolutions though.

Happy New Year! Hope you won't be a stranger. I look forward to reading your posts each day. :)

I would hate to see you blogging less! But blogs do take time. and I've thought I was a 'follower' this whole time, but thought I'd check and it seemed maybe I wasn't but am now 'officially'. The one thing I KNOW I need to do more is spend time in the Word & pray. Then I need to get this physical wreck called a body, into better shape ;) Blessed New Year!

Everything in moderation! That is my goal for 2013. Whether it be fabric, food, blogging, etc. I plan to enjoy all the things I love but doesn't neglect any of the others. Sounds good huh! Only with God's help will that happen. Congratulations on your post. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time spent here, Thanks!

Dar said...

Congratulations on your 1000 post. That is a major accomplishment. I've only had a blog for a year (on 1/3/13 Thurs) and already know I'm spending too much of my time on the computer. I'm going to get more organized with my activities, walk 7k steps/day and try saying "no thank you" more often when asked to volunteer for things. I know it will be hard, but it can't hurt to try. I've been following you for a while and love hearing about what you are doing. Don't go too far.

Barb said...

Happy New Years to you...

I am with you about the blogging, I have scaled back considerably on the reading which I am sad but something has to go....but I do visit and don't always comment.

I want to do more I want to get outside the little box I am in and do more for others.

I, too, need to spend less time reading blogs. Thanks for the giveaway! Happy New Year!

I wonder if all of us bloggers have been given the same "message", Denise. I have been feeling that I spend too much time on the computer and most of my time on the computer has to do with blogs. I'm going to attempt to only go to any particular web address once per day. That may sound funny but somedays I go back two or three times because I want more info. I'm going to take notes rather than keep returning as it takes up so much time (not to mention data use). I was blogging every day and then I got sick. Since then I haven't been blogging as much and feel okay. For the longest time I've felt I HAD to blog everyday or "no one would come". I'm going to keep telling myself that I don't have to blog everyday and hope it works.

Thanks for sharing your similar thoughts and it confirms for me what I need to do too.

Happy New Year!

Michelle said...

Wow! Congratulations on 1000 posts! I totally understand feeling the need to cut back a little, in fact about mid-year I did cut back the amount of blogs I follow. It definitely freed up time for other things. :) As for "need to do" in the coming year...getting healthier is top on my list as well, eating better and losing weight is obviously the goal! Thanks for the opportunity to win a great prize!

Hi neighbor! I'm visiting from Stitchin' by the Lake, so it's a happy surprise to see you're hosting a giveaway. Something to change/do/not do in 2013? Well after 2012, a year full of change as we sold everything and moved across country to start all over again, I'm ready for some calm. I'm simply going to appreciate and enjoy life, sewing and quilting whenever I can. Thank you for your lovely giveaway and the chance to win.

I love a New Year because it just seems like a natural time to do what you are doing... evaluate your choices/options and make adjustments based upon your current life, happiness level and dreams. My quilting goals are to finish a UFO a week and learn to FMQ. I realize that will take discipline and I'll be adding a lot to my Make Someday List, but hopefully in 2014 I can play more as a result~
